Nowadays, western festivals become more and more popular in China, especially among us college students. But whether we should celebrate these festivals has aroused a heated discussion.
Some regard it a precious opportunity for the Chinese to learn more about western cultures. On the other hand, more and more Chinese people view it oppositely. Since more and more young people have lost their interest in our traditional festivals, such as Mid-autumn Festival, Dragon-boat Festival, and even Spring Festival. They seem to be more willing to celebrate Christmas.
In my opinion, every coin has two sides. Since the globalization is impossible to avoid this mix of cultures and traditions. We should preserve the traditional Chinese culture as well as welcome Western ones. We students undertake the responsibility to carry on our traditions, therefore, we have to respect them and cherish them.
The first day of the Lunar New Year is "the welcoming of the gods of the heavens and earth."
Many people abstain from meat on the first day of the new year because it is believed that this will ensure long and happy lives for them.
On the second day, the Chinese pray to their ancestors as well as to all the gods. They are extra kind to dogs and feed them well as it is believed that the second day is the birthday of all dogs.
The third and fourth days are for the sons-in-laws to pay respect to their parents-in-law.
The fifth day is called Po Woo. On that day people stay home to welcome the God of Wealth. No one visits families and friends on the fifth day because it will bring both parties bad luck.
On the sixth to the 10th day, the Chinese visit their relatives and friends freely.
They also visit the temples to pray for good fortune and health.
The seventh day of the New Year is the day for farmers to display their produce.
These farmers make a drink from seven types of vegetables to celebrate the occasion. The seventh day is also considered the birthday of human beings. Noodles are eaten to promote longevity and raw fish for success.
On the eighth day the Fujian people have another family reunion dinner, and at midnight they pray to Tian Gong, the God of Heaven.
The ninth day is to make offerings to the Jade Emperor.
The 10th through the 12th are days that friends and relatives should be invited for dinner. After so much rich food, on the 13th day you should have simple rice congee and mustard greens (choi sum) to cleanse the system.
The 14th day should be for preparations to celebrate the Lantern Festival which is to be held on the 15th night.
My dog will be dead. She is very old. We have kept her for ten years. Now her hairs are falling. And she always lies on the ground. She can’t see very clearly. She eats a little. She becomes thin. She was very strong before. She is still guarding my family. She is one of my family member. Now we are all uneasy because she will die. I think you may know my thinking. Even if it is a dog, you can’t forget it. So these days, we feet her the best food.
The night before the examination
The clock struck eleven at night. The whole house was quiet. Everyone was in bed except me. Under the strong light, I looked gloomily before me at a huge pile of that disgusting stuff they call“books”.
I was going to have my examination the next day. “Whencan I go to bed ” I asked myself. I did not answer. In fact I dared not.
The clock struck 12.“Oh, dear!”I cried. “Ten more books to read before I can go to bed!”We students are the most wretched creatures in the world.
The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th of the eighth month of our Chinese lunar calendar. As one of the traditional Chinese festivals, it has been enjoying great popularity in our country. Usually, no matter how far away or how busy we are, we will try to come home for the celebration. The moon that night looks the brightest in the whole lunar month. What we love most is the time we enjoy the full moon together. With the beautiful moon up in the sky, we sit together and eat moon cakes and fruit, sharing our stories. In addition to these traditional activities, we have a wider range of choices such as travelling and visiting our relatives or friends.
Gragon Boat Festival is coming. Now it is has become a bank holiday.what can do on this holiday? Most of us will have dinner with our friends, grandparents.we will enjoy the rice dumplings with our parents. There are all kinds of the dumplings.I like them all.Why do we have rice dumpings on this day?We remember the famous poet Qu Yuan.On that day, there are so many activities such as Dragon Boat races, throwing the rice dumplings into the water. Why must we have this tratuonal festional.First of all,Chinese festional is special to everyone.Second, they have different meanings. 英语作文范文:
The Prevalence of Western Holidays
Many young people in China today prefer Western holidays to traditional Chinese festivals. Christmas is now celebrated by the younger generation all over China, and it has become especially popular as a romantic holiday for boyfriends and girlfriends or young married couples. Valentines Day is also extremely popular, and even Halloween is being celebrated now.
This phenomenon has actually developed quite naturally in recent decades due to our educational systems focus on English study and therefore on English-speaking cultures. To many students, Western culture has become a symbol of self-expression and freedom from restraint. Celebrating Western holidays has become a way for students to express their love of something different from traditional Chinese culture, and to have fun together with their own generation.
In my opinion, its fine for students learning English and studying English-speaking cultures to celebrate Western holidays with their teachers and classmates. However, the way I see it, unless the young people later go abroad to live in those cultures, there is no reason for them to continue to celebrate them. We Chinese should hold on to our traditional festivals, the festivals which we have celebrated for centuries.
There are lots of festivals in China. Look at this picture. This is Dragon Boat race. It’s in Jimei. There are lots of people on the boat .We eat zongzi. It’s very nice . This is Mid-Autumn Festival. We sing moon songs and we make moon cakes. We eat moon cake ,it’s very nice .After, we watch TV and have a big family dinner. Then we play “Bobing” games. Look at this one. This is Spring Festival. In the morning, we clean our house. We wear new clothes, and we visit our grandparents. And we say “Happy New Year” to everyone. At night, we have a big dinner. We watch TV . This is Lantern Festival. In the morning, we clean our house, too. And we go to buy lots of lanterns. At night, we eat yuanxiao and watch TV. We play lanterns games and go to see dragon dance. Dragon dance is very famous and beautiful. We like these festivals very much.,
As the most important festival in China since ancient times, the Spring Festival is always being excepted by we kids. Because we don't need to do any homework during this time very year. It's really a precious holiday for us. And our parents are free from their work too. We go to our grandparents' to get together with them to enjoy the moment when the new year comes.
I will priciate if the holiday to be longer.
